About Us
We are glad that you have found our web home. Cogitavi is Latin for reflections. The name came after a long, hard search for something unique and interesting. We initially started this site as a means to keep in touch with family that had recently moved away. Shortly after we opened, my wife got sick and was in the hospital for 10 days and had major surgery. In order to keep extended family, people in our church, and other friends informed on what was going on, I decided that I could post any news and updates on our blog and people could check it out and respond as they wished, so I put a link on our church website asking for prayer for my wife and making our site available to them and ultimately to the general public. In this time, we discovered what a great tool that this blog could be. We hope that we can still keep up with the family, but we also hope that it can be used as a blessing for anyone else who might stumble across it.

Who We are: Our family began on August 9, 1997 when Jessica and I were married. God expanded our family on December 10, 1999 when he brought Andrew into our lives. We love one another immeasurably, and we love being together. It is such a blessing to also be able to minister and serve God as a family. I often wonder as John Bunyan once wrote about his family, “Do I hold these mercies too tightly?”
Here is a little about each of us individually.
John- I am an assistant pastor at New England Baptist Church. I have been on staff at the church for almost 11 years as a teacher and athletic director in the Christian School the church has. I was ordained back in December of 2006 and I take on several responsibilities so that the Sr. Pastor can focus his attention on the preaching ministry of the church. One responsibility, which peeked my interest in starting a personal blog, is working on much of the content on the church website. My interests include anything involving my wife and son, reading, history, and some sports.
Jessica- is employed full-time in keeping our family together, no easy task with the two guys she must deal with. Her second job is teaching our son Andrew; she takes on the bulk of the responsibility in home schooling our son. She has a passion for education and this has led to her also helping out at the Academy in a variety of ways from time to time. She will be teaching a high school literature class on the Great Books this coming school year. She also faithfully supports me in the ministries of NEBC as we seek to glorify God together as we serve Him. Her interests include reading, writing, C.S. Lewis, and reading C.S. Lewis.
Andrew- is the reflective boy in the header of this site. Yes that is him reflectively staring out over the Atlantic. I wish I could say that the picture wasn’t staged, but it was, though I did see him sitting there and said to myself that would be a great picture. So it was staged, kind of like the placing of the flag on Iwo Jima…it really happened, but they redid it for posterity. Anyway, Andrew is the only child that God has seen fit to bless us with, and we are truly blessed to have him. Andrew enjoys going to bed late, waking up early, reading, being with his family, playing games (chess), basketball, going out to eat, and much, much more.
