It’s Good to Set Goals
In grammar class, my mom asked me to write out my long term and short term goals as a means to help me use my time wisely and to form good study habits. This is what I came up with:
Long Term-
1. Get a degree in History
2. Get a Master’s degree in Biblical Archaelogy at Wheaton College.
3. Be part of a dig in Greece, Rome, and Isreal
4. Teach at a Seminary
Short Term-
1. Follow my schedule as laid out by my parents
2. Earn good grades every year.
3. Save my allowance for college.
4. Spend time regularly reading about history and archaelogy.
These goals are all tenative and based on my interests and desires at the moment. I pray that God will graciously direct and chooses to use my life in this way. However, I am open to whatever he has for me.

Those are some good goals. Especially compared to mine, which include the shorterm goal of having some chicken noodle soup in about five minutes, and the longterm goal of playing some Scrabble and watching a DVD with my wife after the girls go to bed tonight.
Don’t be so hard on yourself, Steve, we all need to start with attainable goals and work our way up as God works. Don’t lose hope.
Great post, Andrew. I pray that you will grow in your thirst and hunger to be used of God in whatever He has for you.
